Recently, I was reading a post from an old friend on Facebook. She wrote, "Did you know the people that are the strongest are usually the most sensitive? Did you know the people who exhibit the most kindness are the first to get mistreated? Did you know the ones who take care of others all the time are usually the ones who need it the most? Did you know the three hardest things to say are I love you, I'm sorry, and help me?"
I'm definitely behind on my weight loss goals for the Ultimate Black Belt Test and for the first time in my life I'm going to put ME first. I'm always trying to help other people and rarely do I put myself first. In fact, one of my values of my company is PeopleFirst and I believe this wholeheartedly. But in order to help people you need to be in the right space yourself.
In October through December 31st, I'm going to shut off the outside world and focus on my family, my job and myself. My three my's. This means that I'm going train harder than I've ever trained before, work harder than I've ever worked before and love harder than I've ever loved before. My brother used the analogy of being on a plane with your children if the cabin became decompressed. Would you give the oxygen to your children or yourself? The answer that most parents would give is to put the mask on their children. However, if you were unable to survive because of the lack of oxygen how would you be able help your children? This is the same thought process as this three month period. I need to be able to physically and mentally be in place where I can do even more for others. How can I help people overcome their struggles when I haven't overcame them myself?
