This week I also had my PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) procedure. This procedure is supposed to promote the healing of wounds and soft tissue. The physician draws your blood and separates the blood through a centrifuge to separate the platelets. The platelet rich blood (liquid gold) is then injected back into the injury. The injection was actually more painful that I anticipated and hurt for about a 1/2 after. The area is sore for about 3 days and ice and heat is recommended. I also received a 3rd and final cortisone shot so it is going to be difficult to notice the effectiveness since the shot has taken away about 50% of the pain. The procedure was out of pocket as insurances are not covering as of yet, but it is well worth it if I don't have to have surgery. The verdict is still out on it's benefits, but I'm excited to see the results.
